On Sunday, Dec. 22, troopers were called to the Shell gas station in the 22100 block of Three Notch Road in Lexington Park, where there were reports of a driver - later identified as La Plata resident Melissa Anne Dudley - asleep at the wheel.

According to investigators, Dudley, 45, was initially placed under arrest for DUI, who noted that there was suspected cocaine and associated drug paraphernalia in plain sight inside the vehicle.

Things escalated when one passenger, Michael Lawrence Nelson, 42, of Lexington Park, bolted from the scene but didn’t get far.

St. Mary’s County deputies caught him after a brief foot chase, police said, and further investigation turned up more cocaine, brass knuckles, and a folding knife, they added.

Two other passengers, Thomas Edward Dalton, 38, of Hughesville, and Tabitha Marie Wilson, 30, of Lusby, also landed in hot water.

Investigators say Wilson initially lied about her identity, only for authorities to discover she had an active warrant for possession with intent to distribute narcotics in Calvert County.

The group was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, facing a laundry list of charges:

  • Possession of CDS: Not Cannabis;
  • Possession of CDS: Paraphernalia;
